Kash Patel SUES The Atlantic Over ‘Drunk, Absent From Duty’ Claims!

Kash Patel files $250M lawsuit against The Atlantic, alleging false reporting, reputational damage, and reckless disregard for truth in published claims.

FBI Director Kash Patel filed a $250 million defamation lawsuit against The Atlantic, accusing the outlet of publishing false claims about his alleged drinking and job performance. Patel and his legal team argue the report was rushed, ignored official denials, and was published with “actual malice,” while the magazine says it stands by its reporting.

🧾 Lawsuit Filed

FBI Director Kash Patel filed a defamation lawsuit against The Atlantic and reporter Sarah Fitzpatrick. The lawsuit was filed Monday in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. Patel is seeking $250 million in damages. The complaint alleges the outlet published false claims about his behavior.

📰 Report at Center of Dispute

The Atlantic published a report alleging Patel has a drinking problem that could pose a national security risk. The story cited more than two dozen anonymous sources. It claimed Patel showed “conspicuous inebriation and unexplained absences.” The article also alleged meetings were rescheduled due to his behavior and that he was often unreachable.

❌ Denials and Response

Patel, the White House, and the Department of Justice denied the allegations. Patel was quoted telling the outlet, “Print it, all false, I’ll see you in court — bring your checkbook.” The lawsuit claims the report is “categorically false and defamatory.” It also argues the claims harmed Patel’s reputation.

⚖️ Claims of Malice

Patel’s legal team alleges The Atlantic acted with “actual malice.” They say the outlet ignored detailed refutations provided before publication. According to the complaint, the reporter sent questions shortly before the story was published. The lawsuit claims there was not enough time given for a proper response.

🗣️ Atlantic Responds

A representative for The Atlantic said the publication stands by its reporting. The outlet stated it will vigorously defend itself and its journalists. The report was later updated with a new headline, “The FBI Director Is MIA.” The legal battle now moves forward as both sides prepare to defend their positions.
