The House of Representatives on Thursday rejected legislation that would have restricted President Donald J. Trump from taking further military action in Iran, voting 219–212 against the measure. The vote came one day after the Senate rejected a similar proposal.
🏛️ Congress
The legislation was backed by House Democratic leadership, including Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, and aimed to limit the president’s authority to conduct additional military operations without congressional approval. Most Republicans voted against the restriction.
Two Republicans — Reps. Thomas Massie (Ky.) and Warren Davidson (Ohio) — joined most Democrats in supporting the measure. Four Democrats — Reps. Jared Golden (Maine), Henry Cuellar (Texas), Greg Landsman (Ohio), and Juan Vargas (Calif.) — voted against it.
🛡️ National Security
House Speaker Mike Johnson warned that passing a War Powers resolution could “empower our enemies.” The vote followed several days of classified briefings for lawmakers from Trump administration officials about the ongoing military operation.

The Pentagon is preparing to send Congress a supplemental funding request related to the military operation, according to House Appropriations Committee Chairman Tom Cole.
