🌎 International Security

The United States and Ecuador announced a new round of joint military crackdown operations targeting powerful drug-trafficking groups operating in the region. U.S. Southern Command said the effort is aimed at dismantling organizations designated as terrorist groups and stopping the spread of narco-terrorism across Latin America and the Caribbean.

🤝 U.S.–Ecuador Cooperation

Marine Gen. Francis Donovan, commander of U.S. Southern Command, met in Quito with Ecuadorian President Daniel Noboa and senior officials to strengthen security cooperation and reaffirm America’s commitment to helping Ecuador confront drug cartels and criminal networks.

Ecuador’s president confirmed that the country is entering a “new phase” in the fight against drug terrorism and illegal mining, with joint operations involving regional allies including the United States.

🚔 Major Drug Network Dismantled

Authorities say one major operation dismantled a transnational drug trafficking network linked to the Los Lobos cartel and associated with trafficker Hernán Ruilova Barzola.

The coordinated international effort involving U.S. agencies, Ecuadorian authorities, and European law enforcement led to:

  • 16 suspects arrested
  • 6 tons of cocaine seized in Europe

Officials described the operation as a major success in disrupting a large-scale cartel pipeline.

🇺🇸 Trump’s Anti-Cartel Strategy

The latest operation reflects President Donald Trump’s aggressive push to crack down on narco-terrorism across the Western Hemisphere. Targeting drug cartels has been a top priority during Trump’s second term.

U.S. military forces are estimated to have carried out more than 40 strikes against cartel operations in the Caribbean Sea and Pacific Ocean in the past six months, significantly escalating pressure on trafficking networks.

⚡ Wider Crackdown on Cartel Leaders

Earlier this year, President Trump ordered a dramatic raid on the fortified compound of Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro in Caracas. The operation resulted in Maduro’s capture and arrest on charges related to alleged drug trafficking and narco-terrorism conspiracies.

🧭 The Bottom Line

With new joint operations in Ecuador and continued military pressure across the region, the United States is intensifying its campaign against drug cartels — a strategy the Trump administration says is designed to restore security and disrupt narco-terror networks throughout the hemisphere.
