President Trump threatens to cut Spain trade ties, moves forward with powerful Iran strikes despite European resistance and hesitation…

President Trump took a strong America First stand, threatening to cut off all U.S. trade with Spain after it refused to allow American forces to use its bases for critical missions tied to strikes on Iran, and he blasted European leaders for failing to stand with the United States. Despite pushback from Spain and the UK, Trump moved forward with Operation Epic Fury alongside Israel, deploying carrier strike groups, warships, and strategic air bases across the Middle East to defend U.S. interests and respond decisively to Iran’s aggression.

🇺🇸 WHITE HOUSE
President Donald Trump threatened to halt all U.S. trade with Spain after Spanish officials refused to allow American forces to use their military bases for missions tied to strikes on Iran. Speaking Tuesday at the White House during a meeting with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Mr. Trump said, “We’re going to cut off all trade with Spain. We don’t want anything to do with Spain,” adding that he directed Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent to “cut off all dealings.”
The remarks signaled a willingness by the administration to apply economic pressure on allies that decline cooperation in U.S. military operations.
🌍 EUROPEAN RELATIONS
President Trump also sharply criticized British Prime Minister Keir Starmer after the United Kingdom refused to allow U.S. use of Diego Garcia in the Indian Ocean and RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire for the initial phase of the Iran strikes.
Referring to the Diego Garcia lease issue, President Trump said it took “three, four days” to determine alternative landing locations, noting that using the base would have avoided extended flight times. “We are very surprised. This is not Winston Churchill that we’re dealing with,” he said. 🇬🇧
Prime Minister Starmer defended the decision, telling Members of Parliament that it was his duty to determine Britain’s national interest and referencing concerns stemming from the Iraq War. He acknowledged President Trump’s disagreement but maintained that the U.K. would not participate in the initial strikes.
⚔️ IRAN STRIKES
Despite resistance from Spain and the United Kingdom, the United States moved forward with a joint military campaign alongside Israel, codenamed Operation Epic Fury. The operation was launched from multiple strategic locations across the Middle East and beyond.
U.S. officials described the campaign as a coordinated effort to conduct strikes against Iranian targets using sea-based and carrier-based assets.
🚢 MILITARY DEPLOYMENT
The United States deployed two major carrier strike groups to the region:
- Carrier Strike Group 3, led by the USS Abraham Lincoln
- Carrier Strike Group 12, led by the USS Gerald R. Ford
U.S. Navy guided-missile destroyers and other warships positioned in the Persian Gulf and surrounding waters launched Tomahawk cruise missiles during the operation. ⚓
In addition to naval deployments, the United States maintains a substantial military presence at:
- Al Udeid Air Base (Qatar)
- Al Dhafra Air Base (United Arab Emirates)
- Ali Al Salem Air Base (Kuwait)
These installations serve as key strategic hubs for regional operations.
🚀 IRANIAN RETALIATION
Following the U.S.-Israeli strikes, Iran launched missile and drone attacks targeting American positions in the region. Tehran labeled its retaliatory campaign “Operation True Promise IV.”
Several U.S. installations, including Al Udeid, Al Dhafra, and Ali Al Salem, were among the bases targeted.
The unfolding developments highlight deep divisions between Washington and some European nations while underscoring the scale of U.S. military deployment in the region. President Trump framed the actions as a necessary defense of American interests and a decisive response to Iranian aggression, even as allied cooperation fractured over participation in the initial phase of the strikes.
