President Donald J. Trump announced Monday evening that a “complete and total” ceasefire agreement between Israel and Iran has been reached, potentially ending the most dangerous escalation in the Middle East in recent years. The agreement, which Trump said was “fully agreed” upon, is scheduled to be phased in beginning six hours after the announcement and would conclude all hostilities within 24 hours.
In a post on Truth Social at 6 p.m. EDT, President Trump wrote: “CONGRATULATIONS TO EVERYONE! It has been fully agreed by and between Israel and Iran that there will be a Complete and Total CEASEFIRE.” The president referred to the brief but intense conflict as “The 12 Day War,” expressing confidence that the ceasefire will hold and praising both nations for their “Stamina, Courage, and Intelligence” in choosing peace.

The announcement comes just 48 hours after the United States launched precision strikes on three Iranian nuclear sites in response to escalating threats in the region, including an Iranian missile attack on the Al Udeid U.S. Air Force base in Qatar. No casualties were reported in that attack, and President Trump quickly urged calm, calling for “peace and harmony” between the two adversaries.
“This is a war that could have gone on for years and destroyed the entire Middle East,” Trump wrote. “But it didn’t — and never will. God bless Israel, God bless Iran, God bless the Middle East, God bless the United States of America, and GOD BLESS THE WORLD!”
While the Iranian regime publicly denied receiving a ceasefire proposal and vowed to continue its retaliation, the president signaled that both sides had reached an understanding behind the scenes. Though he did not disclose the details of the negotiations or third-party involvement, Trump thanked the nation of Qatar for its role in “seeking Peace for the Region.” Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs had earlier confirmed that its air defenses successfully intercepted Iranian missiles aimed at the U.S. base, helping avoid further escalation.
U.S. allies and diplomatic observers say the rapid shift from missile strikes to ceasefire is a result of intense behind-the-scenes diplomacy spearheaded by the Trump administration, which has repeatedly demonstrated a unique ability to de-escalate conflict while asserting American strength.

“This outcome is a testament to President Trump’s ability to apply maximum pressure while leaving open a path to peace,” said one senior White House official. “He has once again proven that peace through strength is not just a slogan — it’s a strategy.”
Though skepticism remains from some foreign policy analysts and regional actors, the administration is moving forward with optimism, focused on stabilizing the region and avoiding a protracted conflict.
“CONGRATULATIONS WORLD, IT’S TIME FOR PEACE!” President Trump posted shortly after the ceasefire announcement, marking what could be remembered as a turning point in a volatile chapter of Middle East history.
