President Donald Trump is bringing another staunch defender of his America First agenda to the White House briefing room, announcing Friday that Katie Zacharia will replace Karoline Leavitt as his next press secretary. A conservative lawyer, media commentator and former Department of Homeland Security spokesperson, Zacharia has built her public profile defending Trump and his administration’s policies.
Trump announced the appointment on Truth Social, praising Zacharia’s unwavering support, loyalty and ability to work with the media and the American people. He also highlighted her work on his 2024 presidential campaign, including efforts in key swing states.
Zacharia welcomed the appointment, calling it the honor of a lifetime and declaring that Trump has shown America it can be great again. She also pledged to work with the White House press corps and reporters nationwide to communicate the administration’s record.
A Fierce Defender of Trump’s Agenda
Zacharia is no stranger to political media battles. She has appeared on Fox News, CNN, Newsmax and One America News, frequently defending conservative positions and the Trump administration. She has also voiced strong support for immigration enforcement, calling herself a “huge fan” of ICE and the Border Patrol while praising border czar Tom Homan’s work.
Her appointment follows a brief stint at DHS, where she served for approximately two months as deputy assistant secretary for public affairs and department spokesperson before leaving in April. She subsequently indicated that she hoped to continue supporting Trump’s agenda in another capacity.
Zacharia currently works as a senior communications adviser at Trump Media & Technology Group, the company overseeing Truth Social. She previously worked with Fix California, a conservative advocacy organization associated with Trump ally Richard Grenell.
Following Karoline Leavitt
Zacharia takes over from Karoline Leavitt, a forceful defender of the president who announced her departure in August. Trump praised Leavitt’s successor as a loyal and brilliant supporter, expressing confidence that she would deliver strong results for the country.
The incoming press secretary will face the challenge of communicating the administration’s priorities while handling questions from a national press corps that regularly scrutinizes the president’s policies and decisions.
With her background in conservative media, immigration policy messaging and Trump-aligned communications, Zacharia enters the role as a committed advocate for the administration at a pivotal moment, as the United States approaches its 250th anniversary.
